Lilla Roger’s Make Art That Sells is a wonderful web site that offers courses and events to help illustrators and designers gain experience and develop portfolio pieces. I find her projects to be exciting, on trend, and incredibly helpful. I signed up for Assignment Bootcamp in January and began the course in March. It is a structured five-month program of assignments that helps to build a strong body of work. Her web site can be found when you CLICK HERE. Lots of eye candy, so be prepared to journey down the rabbit hole for a while. Here is what I have so far. I still have to complete April and July is yet to come!
March: Make art for a Badass Backpack! (Lilla’s fun words).
I love cherry blossoms and japanese art, so I designed an abstract print detailing those lovely flowers.
April: A Courage Mind Map for a Magazine (the Editorial Market).
To be completed. Life got in the way.
May: Design a journal cover featuring roses and a quote by Gertrude Jekyll.
I love the quote, “There is always in winter, one day at least, when one smells the yet distant, but surely coming summer”.
June: Hairstyles of Ellis Island for a coffee mug.
I truly loved this assignment and wanted to bring together my love for the ocean and tea time. I wanted to depict two women who came to America, enjoying a better life through love of having tea.
